VANCOUVER SLEEP CLINIC VIXEN

Both Vancouver Sleep Clinic and Raury have marked their long-awaited returns recently, the former with ‘Ayahuasca’ and the latter with ‘Odyssey’. The pair worked together previously on a track called ‘Superfly’ back in 2014, and it’s clear they haven’t lost that chemistry since. ‘Vixen’ is a wooze-heavy, alt-soul song about falling in love, but not quite believing that it could be real. The subtlety of the songwriting suggests that this uncertainty has a lot more to do with the thinker’s own insecurities than his lover’s intentions - “I can’t decide if you really like me.” It’s all a matter of perspective. The backdrop to this bittersweet love song is a combination of dreamy, electronic-gospel keys, intricate guitar plucks and deafening bass drum, forming a rich tapestry of sound that propels the listener throughout the relatively short two minutes and thirty-nine seconds. - HT
